Marty Clayton
Member and Chamber Relations Chair

Marty is Manager of Community Relations for Progress Energy having served in this role since October 2001. Prior to this assignment, Marty was an Account Executive for commercial, industrial and governmental accounts. He joined CP&L in 1982 working in a support position in the Power Supply Group. He is a graduate of Wake Technical Community College with an Associate of Applied Science Degree in Business Administration and North Carolina Wesleyan College with a Bachelor of Science Degree in Business Administration. He is a recent graduate of the Duke University Leadership Development Program “Leading in the New Energy Industry” and a graduate of the 2002 Leadership Raleigh class.

Marty holds leadership positions in a number of community organizations. He presently serves on the Board of Directors for Wake Education Partnership, Johnston County Education Foundation, Triangle Urban League, United Arts Council of Raleigh & Wake County, Hillsborough Street Partnership, Capital Area Sports Foundation and the Cary Chamber of Commerce. He is a member of the Board of Advisors for Wake Leadership Academy and serves on the Wake County Citizens Energy Advisory Commission, and The Junior League of Raleigh’s Community Advisory Board. Marty is also a member of the Regional Transportation Alliance, Greater Raleigh Chamber of Commerce Government Affairs Board, Fuquay-Varina Industrial Manager’s Association, Harnett Forward Together Committee, Harnett County Business Education Partnership, and Wake Technical Community College Business & Industry Services Advisory Committee.

Marty is a native of Wake County, and lives in Fuquay-Varina. He and his wife Kim have two sons, Elliott and Reid. They are members of Fuquay-Varina Presbyterian Church.
