More than 10 million people travel through RDU in 2007
At Raleigh-Durham International Airport, 2007 was a year of growth and development. By the end of the year, more than 10 million people were expected to travel through RDU. This is only the second time in the airport’s history (2000 being the other year) that it has surpassed the 10 million mark. Throughout the year, airlines serving RDU introduced 30 new nonstop flights to new and existing destinations. Other highlights from the year include the return of United Airlines and Midwest Connect after a six-year absence and the introduction of ExpressJet Airlines to RDU. Major construction on Terminal 2, RDU’s newest terminal, also continued. Phase one of the more than 900,000 square foot facility will open next summer.

The Raleigh-Durham Airport Authority recently announced that Southwest Airlines will begin nonstop service to Denver, Colo., on May 10. This is in addition to United Airlines' nonstop service to Denver, which began in the spring of 2007.
