Pedestrian/bicycle

The Regional Transportation Alliance will remain a strong advocate for the development of a regionwide system of pedestrian and bicycle trails, bicycle lanes/routes, and pedestrian/bicycle – transit connections. Every trip begins and ends with a walking or bicycling trip and these facilities bode well for future commuting as well as recreational opportunities. A priority focus is on the completion of the American Tobacco Trail, which connects Downtown Durham with the SouthPointe area and points in eastern Chatham and western Wake County. Other priorities include support for improved access to transit in order to maximize system usage and enhance the ridership experience, construction of the Mountains to Sea trail, and creation of expanded connections between suburban and urban shopping, entertainment, and residential destinations.
