The Triangle Receives $15 Million in Additional Federal Transit funding

Another week — another major federal funding win for transit in our market.

On the heels of a $35 million win for the City of Raleigh — our region’s first federal full funding grant agreement for BRT, that we discussed in last week’s blog — the Triangle received more than $15 million in additional funding to advance multimodal transportation.

Cary received more than $10 million to create a new operations and maintenance facility for the Town’s growing GoCary system.

Durham received more than $5 million to purchase up to six new battery-electric buses to replace the City’s current fleet.

The funding came via the Federal Transit Administration (FTA) Low- and No-Emission and Bus and Bus Facilities programs for FY 2022.

In one month, the Triangle has secured more than $50 million in new federal funding for enhanced transit. This is a great victory for multimodal mobility, and for the future of our region. RTA applauds these and all efforts to create attractive, environmentally-friendly public transportation options.
