14 years of Partnership for the Triangle’s main street

RTA members and partners,

Today marked the 14th annual meeting of the I-40 Regional Partnership.

The Partnership is a cooperative initiative of the Regional Transportation Alliance (RTA) business coalition and NCDOT in concert with other partners. RTA and NCDOT launched the Partnership in 2009 to provide an ongoing focus on I-40 in order to maintain and enhance its viability for travel and commerce, and to improve the travel experience on I-40 and core reliever/alternate routes.

The I-40 Regional Partnership held its first meeting in spring 2009 and has met at least annually since that time, for a total of 19 regional meetings to date. Meredith McDiarmid, PE, NCDOT State Transportation Systems Management and Operations Engineer, has served as the I-40 Regional Partnership executive since its founding.

Today’s meeting focused on several key areas:

  • Active/upcoming construction projects on I-40
  • I-40 studies and initiatives
  • Legislative and funding updates
  • Discussion on the future of I-40

You can view the agenda and all slides for the event. You can also download a one page overview of active and upcoming plans, programs, and projects on I-40.

Interstate 40, the “Triangle’s Main Street”, is a critical limited-access roadway that connects Orange, Durham, Wake and Johnston counties with the rest of North Carolina and the nation. Kudos to all of our local, regional, state, federal, and private partners who have and continue to work on the future of I-40.

Let’s get moving,

Joe
