NCDOT offers the free 511 service to travelers

- Provides updated travel time info, traffic, weather

- Dial 511 from your mobile phone to access the service

- System can also be accessed via 1-877.511-4662 (1-877.511-IN-NC)

- For more information or Qs about the service, visit www.ncdot.org/travel/511/

- RTA has compiled a few shortcuts below that may be helpful to our members

 

for TRAVEL TIME

- Dial 511; wait until you hear “…Department of Transportation”

- Touch 88 to enter Touch Tone mode; wait until you hear "... return to voice mode"

- Touch 6/travel time

- Enter your route number and * (star)

    -- e.g., for I-40, enter 40 * (star), and then 1 when prompted

- Enter your travel direction

    -- 1/East, 2/West, 1/North, 2/South

- Enter your exit number or milemarker and * (star) 

- Common keys:  1-yes, 2-no, 5-stop, * (star) repeat

- Touch 9 to return to main menu

 

for TRAFFIC CONGESTION

- Dial 511, wait until you hear “…Department of Transportation”

- Touch 88 to enter Touch Tone mode; wait until you hear "... return to voice mode"

- Touch 1/traffic

- Touch 011 * (star) for Triangle region

- Touch 2/list of highways containing reports

- Listen to routes listed

- If your route is listed, enter route number and * (star)

    -- e.g., for I-40, enter 40 * (star), and then 1 when prompted

- Other keys:  1-yes, 2-no, 5-stop, * (star) repeat

- Touch 9 to return to main menu

 

for WEATHER

- Dial 511, wait until you hear “…Department of Transportation”

- Touch 88 to enter touch tone mode; wait until you hear "... return to voice mode"

- Touch 3/weather

- Touch 011 * (star)  for Triangle region

- Select 1/today’s weather or 2/extended forecast

- Other keys:  1-yes, 2-no, 5-stop, * (star) repeat

- Touch 9 to return to main menu
