NCDOT is creating a second exit lane from I-540 West to I-40 West in Research Triangle Park. This accelerated project also includes repaving on I-40 in the RTP area. The project is moving quickly, with substantial completion expected by December 2010. To minimize disruption, construction work is occuring around the clock.
When complete, traffic from I-540 will be able to access I-40 West from either exit lane, which should improve flow on 540. In addition, the left-most entrance lane will merge into I-40 West beyond the existing Page Road exit.
