The RTA Steering Committee approved a resolution at its meeting on September 15, 2011 in support of the Durham transit referendum this fall, and today the RTA formally issued the following statement:
September 21, 2011
REGIONAL TRANSPORTATION ALLIANCE (RTA)
STATEMENT ON THE FALL 2011 DURHAM TRANSIT REFERENDUM
Our region is expected to grow by more than a million people in the next two decades. Enhanced transit options in Durham and throughout the region will be increasingly important to our success and quality of life amidst this growth. The Regional Transportation Alliance (RTA) business leadership group enthusiastically supports the vision and leadership of Durham – the central county in our region – to move transit forward by authorizing a referendum on a half-cent sales tax for transit investment.
The RTA urges the citizens of Durham to vote yes on the Durham transit referendum this fall to allow this new dedicated funding source to become a reality and to empower our community to invest in our future prosperity.
