In early February 2012 the NC Department of Transportation raised the speed limit on the Wade Avenue Extension freeway between the I-440 and I-40 interchange areas in west Raleigh from 55 MPH to 60 MPH.
This was in response to an RTA request of NCDOT to examine Wade Avenue Extension and a few other segments of area freeways for a possible 5 MPH speed limit increase. NCDOT has reviewed, studied, approved and implemented the Wade Avenue extension request, and the Department will review a few other requests during the months ahead.
The RTA applauds the NC Department of Transportation’s ongoing commitment to make our region and state an easier place to move around and help keep us economically competitive. The next time you see one or more colleagues from NCDOT, please thank them for their continued willingness to consider suggestions from the business community, and for what they do each and every day to keep our system as safe and efficient as possible.
