Let’s accelerate our metropolitan BRT transit network

RTA members,

On Friday, August 8, 2025, at the RTA Transportation Brunch, RTA and our local, regional, state, and federal partners were pleased to receive an update on the New Bern Avenue BRT project in Raleigh and see the findings of the FAST regional transit 2.0 study.

The room was full of energy, supporters, and insights, and so was the packed event agenda. We began the day with a brief RTA overview presentation on BRT in the Triangle.

New Bern Avenue BRT – The regional business community has long championed, and we have an increasing imperative to support, the efforts of the City of Raleigh as it begins construction of North Carolina’s first BRT corridor this fall. RTA will continue to highlight and support the work of the capital city and other local, regional, and statewide partners that are looking to advance 10 proposed BRT corridors to this region.

FAST Regional Transit 2.0 study – A primary focus of the brunch were the presentations from statewide partner NCDOT and RTA Regional Leadership Team member WSP on the findings of the FAST regional transit 2.0 study. We also learned of the potential opportunity for an I-40 / RDU Airport Exchange Station via an overview and visualizations from WSP and renderings from RTA Leadership Team member HH Architecture.

RTA has been very supportive of both the original FAST transit study as well as the FAST transit 2.0 study, and the potential to help transform the region from a mobility, accessibility, and growth standpoint. We have been pleased to provide funding for both FAST study efforts, and we believe that there are real, meaningful opportunities to advance our freeway-based regional BRT transit network across the metropolitan Triangle. In addition, RTA is committed to accelerating the proposed I-40/RDU BRT exchange station as soon as possible.

Please share the information and links above with your colleagues and associates. Let’s advance these key regional transit priorities and accelerate our mobility future, together.

Let’s get moving,

Joe
