A new year beckons with a new traffic record at RDU

As Thanksgiving travel weekend wrapped up on Sunday, November 30th, 2025, RDU International Airport saw over 33,000 travelers pass through the terminals. This is an all-time single day record.

The surrounding week of November 25 through December 1 included almost 192,000 travelers. RDU Airport Authority board chair Tammie Hall-Roberts noted in an RDU news release that “It is a pleasure to help bring families and friends together during the holiday season. We appreciate everyone who is making RDU part of their plans, and we wish them safe travels.”

RDU Airport is our wonderful and growing link to the world. It must and will transform and grow, just as our region continues to evolve.

We will have much more to say about the airport during our RTA 24th annual meeting — The State of Mobility 2026 — on Friday, January 23, 2026. The event will include a detailed focus on air service and related infrastructure , including The State of RDU Airport and a companion conversation with business leaders and elected officials.

All RTA members have at least one included ticket to this event and additional tickets can be purchased for $75.  Please get with our colleague Alea Morales to claim your included tickets, and you can contact Jacob Rigg for additional information.

Let’s get moving,
Joe
