A Spirit of Partnership

Earlier today, several members of the RTA chairs council had an opportunity to meet with NCDOT Secretary Daniel Johnson and members of his executive team.

Members of the business community were able to tell the story of the economic development investments their companies are making, in capital investments, job creation, and opportunities for North Carolinians. Many of our member companies are attracting talent from 30 or more counties in our state. Time and again, we were able to speak of the essential nature of the transportation projects being implemented and advanced by NCDOT to the success of member businesses and our entire extended metropolitan area.

The projects and solutions successfully completed or moving forward by NCDOT are almost too numerous to count, from 40, to 440, to 540 — to the FAST study, the RTA-NCDOT I-40 Partnership (including our recent collaborative task force meeting held earlier this month at SAS), support for BRT, intersection innovations, and the S-line corridor connecting Raleigh to Wake Forest, Richmond, and Washington.

While we had a number of points to share from various members of the business community, our primary agenda item was “thank you”.

Indeed, RTA and this growing region has much to be grateful for — from the Department, from its leaders, and from the literally thousands of dedicated NCDOT employees who work to keep our beloved Triangle and state moving, every day, and every decade.

NCDOT has been an outstanding and essential partner, for RTA, for our region, and for North Carolina. Of course, we still have much to work on together. And we committed to doing just that, in a spirit of partnership, that is increasingly recognized nationally.

Let’s get moving,

Joe Milazzo II, PE
RTA executive director
