Register now — We are less than 3 months until the RTA Maryland tour
RTA thanks NCDOT Chief Engineer Patrick Norman and NCDOT Deputy Secretary for Multi-modal Transportation Julie White for serving as honorary co-chairs of the Maryland tour. We look forward to spending time with them, several of their colleagues from NCDOT, and other partners from both the public and private sectors, at the 2026 RTA Leadership Briefing and Field Visit to Annapolis and Suburban Maryland.
The tour will be held on Monday, July 20 and Tuesday, July 21, and include briefings and/or field visits of existing and proposed BRT corridors, junior freeways, dynamically priced toll roads, parallel bikeways, transit policy discussions, and more.
The event page (letsgetmoving.org/Maryland2026) includes our growing list of confirmed tour participants as well as registration and sponsorship info. Thank you to Amgen and the Research Triangle Foundation (RTA Omnia Gold members) along with HDR, GoTriangle, and NCDOT for serving as our first tour sponsors for this year’s tour.
Early registration pricing is now active for both RTA members and public sector partners, and space is limited for the tour. Your early registration will save you money and also encourage your colleagues to join you so that we can all learn together. Please let me or RTA membership operations coordinator Jacob Rigg know if you have questions.
A Successful Autonomous Field Test in Phoenix
Last week I had the opportunity to join the Greater Raleigh Chamber — the home of the RTA program — during the Chamber’s annual intercity visit.
This year we traveled to Phoenix, where we learned about economic growth, infrastructure, regional issues, and more. RTA chair Sarah Gaskill and I also had the opportunity to do a couple of “bonus” field trips on a Waymo autonomous vehicle. Our journey was somewhat unexpectedly “uninteresting”, which made it very interesting. Read more in this week’s blog.
Thank you for your continued support and partnership. I hope everyone has a great weekend.
Let’s get moving.
Joe
