RTA members,
Raleigh has several BRT projects in the pipeline, with one corridor (New Bern Avenue) getting ready for construction this fall. Chapel Hill also is moving forward with its North-South BRT project.
The City of Durham — the home of the highest ridership bus system in the entire Triangle area — is advancing the region’s movement toward a metropolitan BRT system, with its new Central Durham BRT project.
The corridor would link Duke University, Downtown Durham, and the Wellons Village shopping center area just west of I-885.
Here is a link to the corridor webpage, and also a project flyer. The corridor would have near-level boarding at stations to simplify boarding and departing for all, more frequent arrivals, along with some dedicated lanes or queue jumps to keep buses and passengers moving.
Members of the community can learn more about the project using the above links, and also take a brief survey on the project webpage
RTA is very supportive of implementing and accelerating this project as we look to expand effective, efficient, and inclusive travel options for our members and their associates — across our entire growing region. The Central Durham BRT project will activate bus rapid transit — or buses resembling trains — for Durham residents and travelers.
