RTA Member Briefing: July 25

Happy Friday to all RTA members. Here are a few multimodal updates.

BRT is moving forward — in Raleigh

The City of Raleigh has already awarded the BRT construction contract for the western segment of the New Bern BRT corridor (i.e., from Downtown to Poole Road). The  solicitation for bids for the central segment, “package 2”, opened to prospective contractors this week. Bids for this section, which generally extends from Poole Road to the I-440 Beltline area, will be accepted until September 19 at 1 pm EDT. More information online via this link and document.

… and in Durham …

The City of Durham — the home of the highest ridership bus system in the entire Triangle area — is helping to advance the region’s movement toward a metropolitan BRT system, with its new Central Durham BRT project. The corridor would link Duke University, Downtown Durham, and the Wellons Village shopping center area just west of I-885. Learn more in this week’s blog.

… and across our market.

At our RTA annual transportation brunch — just two weeks away, on Friday, August 8, we will be releasing the results of the FAST transit study coordinated by NCDOT, and highlighting the need to connect the region with freeway and arterial BRT, and to go faster. One or more seats are included with your RTA membership — but space is limited, so please reach out to Alea Morales to claim your included RTA member tickets and/or for registration questions about this event. Kudos to premier sponsors Amgen and the Research Triangle Foundation as well as all of our event sponsors and RTA Leadership Team members for making the event possible.

Have a great weekend, and let’s get moving,

Joe Milazzo II, PE
RTA executive director
