Air travel is essential — for our region, and for America

RTA members and partners,

The regional business community has been focused on the success of RDU International Airport for nearly 20 years through the RTA. Air travel links our region to the world, strengthens and expands our economy, and provides economic growth and mobility.

As our market has grown, RDU Airport has expanded, in terms of terminal, runway, taxiway, and apron infrastructure, as well as the number and diversity of flight operations, and the overall air travel experience.

While RDU is not a hub for any one airline, we now have 19 air carriers and more than 80 nonstop destinations.

This week we will be discussing the future of RDU, and our region, at our 24th Annual Meeting, The State of Mobility 2026. The event will also include “The State of RDU”.

You can download the joint RTA-RDU media release for the event here.

We look forward to an outstanding event, and a great year of both supporting and advancing infrastructure improvements at RDU, including the “Transform RDU” package of airside and landside improvements (including a relocated and longer runway, a new terminal, an improved terminal roadway network, and an expanded economy parking lot).

Recent media articles in the News&Observer and a WRAL story and video have included several of the Transform RDU projects.

I also commend for your reading pleasure this recent article in Airways magazine, which highlights the history of commercial flight, including how it has become more available for everyone through innovation and entrepreneurship.

Let’s have a great annual meeting, and let’s get moving,

Joe
