Tom Tom traffic index — continued good performance in the Triangle
Tom Tom released its new traffic comparison report earlier this year.

According to the Tom Tom traffic index, Raleigh saw a 0.6 percentage point decrease in average congestion in 2025 — Raleigh was the only one of the cities listed above with a drop in congestion.
I just visited Phoenix within the past week, and the Greater Raleigh Chamber will be visiting the Valley of the Sun later this spring. Phoenix has probably the most robust freeway network of any city listed above, and among the largest in the nation. As a result, it take more than a minute less time to travel a six mile distance in that metro area than in any of the others above, simply because there are more freeway miles to travel on. As a result it takes almost two minutes longer to travel six miles in Raleigh than Phoenix, even though our overall congestion level is almost 5% lower, and our freeway speeds are around 5 MPH faster. In fact, our average speed on highways is higher than any of the above comparative set.
Of course, we still have congestion, and we always will to an extent, but our market continues to do well.
