Member Briefing: May 10, 2019

Here is a brief weekly update from the RTA business coalition – the voice of the regional business community on transportation.

Registration open for next month’s RTA Va. tour
The regional business community is leading a tour to Richmond and northern Virginia this summer to visit two bus rapid transit systems and commuter rail service in northern Virginia. The tour, which will be held in concert with the chambers of commerce serving Durham and Chapel Hill-Carrboro, will provide new findings, insights, and perspectives as our region prepares to implement multiple bus rapid transit lines, initiate commuter rail, and update transit plans in Durham and Orange counties. Early registration is open at $599 through May 24 — please sign-up now as space is limited.

RTA members and partners help “sweep” I-40
More than 25 RTA members and Umstead Hotel staff and officials with the NC State Highway Patrol conducted a litter sweep of I-40 last Saturday morning along the I-40/Harrison Ave. on-ramps and off-ramps. Thanks to Jim Beley with The Umstead for hosting the group, and thank you to everyone who joined in the effort! You can see some of the photos hereWe look forward to continuing our support for the next statewide Litter Sweep initiative this fall by helping to raise awareness and lending a hand to our state partners!

Interstate 87 advancing in Wake County
The capital county’s first north-south primary Interstate will take a big step forward this summer, at least from a signage and navigation standpoint. Beginning next week, the freeway will have new exit numbers; later this summer, new overhead signs will be installed along I-87 and several approach roadways including I-440, I-40, and I-540. While I-87 milepost zero effectively begins at the 40/440 split in southeast Raleigh, new I-87 mile markers and corresponding exit numbers will only be added along the US 64-264 portion to Rolesville Road. In addition, all remaining I-495 signs will be removed as that route number is decommissioned.

Thank you for investing in the region’s business voice on transportation!

Let’s get moving,

Joe
