Member Briefing: September 24, 2021

Here is a brief weekly update from the RTA business coalition – the voice of the regional business community on transportation.

RDU increasingly satisfies our region — let’s keep it that way

This week’s Thursday Thoughts at 3 blog speaks to the continued ascent of RDU up the traveler satisfaction rankings, now ranking 3rd in North America for large airports in the new J.D. Power survey — and the importance of infrastructure development to continue that satisfaction, and not just for the air travel experience.

The regional business community recognizes that our air travel volumes are going to continue to grow as our market continues its expansion. And, we recognize that airport infrastructure investments at RDU are just that — investments in our future, necessities for our regional community, and essential to our ongoing success for both business and leisure quality of life.

RTA launched our airport infrastructure development task force in 2019, with follow-up, post-pandemic recommendations from our RTA RDU AID task force at our annual breakfast earlier this summer. The RTA Regional Leadership Team endorsed several of those recommendations at our annual retreat last month.

RTA will continue our push on infrastructure development at the airport into 2022. Doing so will ensure the future success of our community, and sustained satisfaction for air travelers.

RTA 20th annual meeting:  Strength in Numbers

On November 4, 2021, we will celebrate our RTA 20th annual meeting. The luncheon event will be held at the Embassy Suites Raleigh-Durham-Research Triangle in Cary. Presented by the Research Triangle Foundation of North Carolina, this year’s theme is “Strength in Numbers” — and we hope to number you among our attendees.

Our speakers will include the founding, past, present, and future leadership of the RTA, including:

  • RTA 2001 chair Smedes York, York Properties  (RTA founding co-chair)
  • RTA 2001 chair Bob Ingram, Hatteras Venture Partners (RTA founding co-chair)
  • RTA 2011 chair Clymer Cease, Clark Nexsen
  • RTA 2021 chair Mike Schoenfeld, Duke University    (current RTA chair)
  • RTA chair-elect Harold Hicks, Fidelity Investments

We will speak to the increasing numbers of members, partners, accomplishments, and opportunities for the organization and the region, as we focus on 20 years of success and the strength needed to execute an Accelerated Metropolitan Mobility strategy for the Triangle’s future.

Please visit letsgetmoving.org/20registration to secure your seats for the 20th annual meeting. A reminder that one or more tickets are included with your RTA membership.

Let’s get moving,

Joe Milazzo II, PE
RTA Executive Director
