Member Briefing: February 18, 2022

Here is a brief weekly update from the RTA business coalition – the voice of the regional business community on transportation.

Registration deadline — RTA general meeting – Feb 23
Our first RTA general membership meeting of 2022 will be this coming Wednesday, February 23 at 11 am. We have more than 70 people already registered for the online-only meeting.  We will hear an overview from RTA chair Harold Hicks, airport updates from RDU CEO Mike Landguth, and observations from a few of our focus area chairs. Please register here if you can attend, as we will have action items for all members. Requested sign-up deadline is COB Monday, February 21; as a practical matter we will accept them the morning of Tuesday 2/22 since Monday is a holiday for many people.

RTA South Florida tour — can you join us?
We have around 70 people signed up for the rescheduled RTA 2022 Regional Leadership Tour to South Florida (March 29-31). The event will include a number of elected, appointed, transportation, and business leaders from North Carolina and South Florida. Tour registration and sponsorships are again available and open. We will continue to allow all current or new tour registrants to make substitutions from their same organization through the beginning of the tour. Join your RTA colleagues and sign-up if you can.

President’s Day is no time for a fuel tax holiday
This Monday, February 21st, is the President’s Day holiday, and also when we celebrate Washington’s birthday this year. As we honor the country’s past leaders, we should also focus on the future of our great nation — and that means investing in infrastructure that current and future generations will need. This week’s RTA blog highlights our ongoing focus on an access user fee-based approach as one method of sustainable funding for transportation. It also speaks to the federal fuel tax holiday proposal — and why that is not a helpful way forward.

Thank you, as always, for your commitment to sustained regional business leadership on mobility.

Let’s get moving,

Joe
