RTA Celebrates Transportation Innovation With NCDOT, Cary, and ULI Triangle

Earlier this week, RTA partnered with NCDOT, Cary, and ULI Triangle to showcase the next advancement in both transportation innovations — the “CASSI” autonomous shuttle — in an event at Cary’s Bond metro park. NCDOT launched the Cary pilot for the electric, automated shuttle, in March at the park; the pilot will continue until June 2nd.

RTA and partner participants from ULI Triangle were able to ride this shuttle after hearing from transportation leaders with NCDOT and Cary, as well as a representative from Beep, the manufacturer of the shuttle. Our members were able understand how this pilot program will help shape how our region and state looks at innovation in transportation along with what possible next steps might look like for mobility as a service.

Our region, and society as a whole, advances by taking calculated risks with innovations in mobility and other areas. Kudos to NCDOT and Cary for leading on this pilot program and for their assistance in putting together this excellent partnership event; thank you also to our excellent partners with the Triangle chapter of the Urban Land Institute for the collaboration for this week’s mobility showcase. Thank you also to all RTA members who attended the event and indeed any of our general membership meetings and events thus far calendar year.

The regional business community is committed to remaining in the forefront of supporting and advancing the future of mobility. Our future quality of life in the Triangle depends on our focus, partnerships, and shared successes.

Let’s get moving,
Joe
