Let’s celebrate Freedom Day on Juneteenth

Celebrate Freedom Day
This coming Monday is June 19th, “Freedom Day”, “Juneteenth” — and a day of celebration, remembrance, honoring, and motivation for the African-American community, and increasingly for all Americans.

I hope you will find this updated CNN article on the meaning behind the Juneteenth flag, including the importance of the date for Juneteenth, to be informative and inspiring.

As I have expressed previously, while America is indeed the land of the free, it also has unfinished business to form a more perfect union for all Americans, and each of us has a shared opportunity and responsibility to advance the present and future of our nation.

More than 20 years after our founding, RTA remains committed to doing our part to advance the transportation system needed so that all members of our community can achieve great things for their families, the region, our state and country. As I mentioned earlier this year during our weekly blog on the birthday of Frederick Douglass, I hope that your celebrations this weekend again involve love — love of liberty, love of all Americans, and of our shared journey together.

Let’s get moving,

Joe Milazzo II, PE
RTA executive director
