Member Briefing: July 28

Let’s get moving on transit — thanks to our largest RTA breakfast event

Last Friday we enjoyed seeing more than 250 business leaders, elected officials and transportation partners come together to celebrate the launch of BRT across the Triangle and the backbone of a future regional transit system.

As noted on the front page of yesterday’s Raleigh News&Observer and Durham Herald-Sun, our elected partners at the event spoke of the Federal Transit Administration’s increasing focus on BRT systems like we are building and planning in Raleigh, Garner, Cary, Chapel Hill, Durham, and nearby communities — including a new FAST study that will link the BRT corridors with each other and with RDU Airport. Read more on the impact and opportunity for the Triangle in this week’s blog.

Let’s advance multimodal options at RDU:  Please support the expansion of Park Economy 3

Supporting sustainable funding for RDU Airport remains our top priority, including a new primary runway to replace and lengthen existing 5L-23R runway. RDU continues to add flights, destinations, and carriers — including Air France, as we noted in last week’s blog — and RDU patrons will need increasing travel options to the airport.

RTA supports, and is helping to fund a study of, a direct BRT linkage to RDU Airport. We also support an expansion and improvement of the Park Economy 3 lot to create new options for our growing airport and region, particularly during construction.

We are asking interested members to submit a short email note of support for the expansion of Park Economy 3 by the comment deadline of next August 4th. Click on the link, and please let me know if you have questions.

Let’s get moving!

Joe Milazzo II, PE
RTA Executive Director
