Construction Suspended for the Holidays; New NC 74 Connector Simplifies Northbound Travel
NCDOT will suspend most construction activity on major highways for the Christmas and New Year’s holiday period. This will simplify travel to family and friends near and far. In addition, a new NC 74 freeway connector – the northeastern Winston-Salem bypass – is now open for travel between US 52 (to southwest Virginia, West Virginia, etc.) and US 421 (from I-40 in the Triangle) . It is three miles shorter than the prior linkage, and more importantly it avoids the congested and constrained US 52 freeway through downtown Winston-Salem.

I just used the NC 74 / future I-74 freeway connector in Winston-Salem earlier today. While the project is not complete, the primary movement ramps at US 52 are open and working great. Kudos to NCDOT for an excellent, long-needed freeway improvement that will benefit commerce and travel for the entire state.
