Win with a sticker, and stick with a winner — for free

North Carolina has had the most interoperable transponder for tolls for many years. Effective this month, you can now use your NC Quick Pass transponder — even the free “sticker tag” variety — in any of the 19 states served by the E-ZPass toll network. Learn more at this week’s blog.

Do you know the turbine interchange of 540 and Interstate 42? You soon will.

The 540 Southern Wake freeway project is only months away from completion. By the end of summer we will have 18 miles of new multimodal freeway from the Apex/Holly Springs area to the Garner/Clayton area. The 540 freeway will interchange with I-40 at the Wake/Johnston county line — at the new turbine interchange currently under construction — where it will also link directly with the beginning of Interstate 42.

I-42, which you may also know as the US 70 freeway serving Clayton, Selma, and Smithfield, will have new Interstate shields added this year. You can learn more about the economic importance of the project in a recent Triangle Business Journal article. I noted to the TBJ that “Businesses want that red, white and blue shield” and that “Interstates attract economic development because of the quality of travel and the assurance of free-flow, reliable travel times outside of the most congested periods.”

5 great pods for one growing regional business group

This week RTA held five interactive pods with members of our Regional Leadership Team. Held both online and in-person each year, they create a unique opportunity for our members to develop peer relationships with colleagues across the region in a small group environment. One of our focuses this year was a strategic discussion on employee satisfaction and workforce/campus accessibility issues based on mobility via primary corridors. We received great feedback; one conversation already led to a simplification of our upcoming mobility submarket caucus groupings, while several pods elevated key regional destinations to add to our upcoming regional BRT network.

Let’s get moving,

Joe Milazzo II, PE
RTA Executive Director
