RTA Member Briefing: March 29

Durham is Moving on Transit

RTA Regional Leadership Team member the City of Durham is implementing a suite of transit improvements for Durham residents, commuters, and visitors. In addition to the return to 100% of pre-pandemic service levels as of earlier this year (>90% pre-pandemic ridership), GoDurham will be adding the first service expansion since the pandemic later this month, with more frequent service on four routes. In addition, Durham will begin implementing arterial BRT (aBRT) improvements to improve transit service, reliability, and the multimodal user experience along two of the City’s highest transit ridership corridors. Changes coming to RDU next month

Our hometown international airport continues to add carriers, flights, and seats at a record-breaking pace. To optimize the utilization of the limited number of available gates at the terminals, RDU will be relocating two airlines from terminal 2 to terminal 1. Breeze Airways will begin operating out of Terminal 1 on April 2; SunCountry will move to Terminal 1 on April 17. These moves are one more reminder of the need for sustainable funding to accelerate infrastructure investments at RDU, which remains our highest organizational priority.

Have a great weekend, and safe travels for those taking to the roads, railways, or skies.

Let’s get moving,

Joe Milazzo II, PE
RTA Executive Director
