RTA Member Briefing: March 22

Coming up — BRT, FAST and more

Raleigh’s New Bern Avenue BRT is currently out for bid, Chapel Hill’s North-South BRT is recommended for federal funding in the Administration’s budget, and the FAST transit study is currently moving forward with a kickoff meeting slated for next month.

Speaking of the FAST study:  we are looking forward to the study’s focus, analysis, and feasibility studies of making our freeways, arterials, and streets “transit ready.” We will be sharing more information with our members and partners as the study progresses, including at the RTA Transportation Brunch 2024. Remember that you have at least one ticket included with your membership for that summer event on August 6, and you can register now.

Get your associates involved in RTA by joining the RTA Transit Acceleration Committee

With BRT and FAST moving forward, and in keeping with the regional business community’s goal of further advancing regional transit options front-and-center, we have launched a dedicated page for the new RTA transit acceleration committee.  Please take a moment to let Jacob know if you and/or a fellow colleague would like to join the committee. Our first meeting will be online at 11 am on Monday, June 17; you and/or a colleague can register here.

An interesting article about I-70 in Colorado

Michael Hogan, an economist in the Center for Applied Economics and Strategy at RTI International who also serves as RTA’s policy and research coordinator, shared a recent article about traffic on the I-70 Mountain Corridor in ColoradoIt is a very readable piece, and a helpful one to better understand some of the questions about traffic congestion in growing areas and along highly-trafficked corridors. See this week’s blog for more.

Have a great weekend, everyone.

Let’s get moving,

Joe Milazzo II, PE
RTA Executive Director
