Member Briefing: February 5, 2021

Here is a brief weekly update from the RTA business coalition — the voice of the regional business community on transportation.

The last mile just got easier in RTP
Effective immediately, anyone traveling between either the Regional Transit Center or Boxyard RTP and a destination within the RTP Connect zone can travel for free, thanks to a new “RTP Connect” partnership between GoTriangle, the Research Triangle Foundation, and Uber and Lyft. You can learn more in this week’s Thursday Thoughts at 3 blog This innovative pilot represents a practical solution to creating more of a sense of place within RTP while facilitating cost-and-time-effective mobility solutions in the center of the region.

Electric vehicles and transportation
RTA has supported alternative technologies for mobility for several years. This support includes advocacy for electric and compressed natural gas public transit vehicles, as well as support for RTA Gold member Duke Energy’s proposals to dramatically expand access to electric charging infrastructure in North Carolina. For a taste of both the possibility and speed at which additional electric vehicles may be making their way to a road near you, watch this video from GM CEO Mary Barra.

ICYMIThe 2021 State of Mobility – Letter to RTA members is available on our blog, in case you missed it in our prior briefing. Take a look and feel free to share this overview of our key focus and impact areas for the year.
