Member Briefing: November 26, 2021

Here is a brief weekly update from the RTA business coalition – the voice of the regional business community on transportation.

We are less than a year away from launching our region’s bus rapid transit network
RTA Regional Leadership Team member the City of Raleigh is doing outstanding work on the development of several bus rapid transit corridors – the first of which will go under construction next summer. The New Bern Avenue BRT corridor will have 65% dedicated or transit priority lanes, including all but two blocks of the corridor in downtown Raleigh, along with transit signal priority at intersections. You can download an excellent, updated overview presentation on the project here.

Kudos to the City of Raleigh, the Town of Chapel Hill, the Capital Area Metropolitan Planning Organization, and other partners for advancing 55+ miles of bus rapid transit across seven BRT corridors and extensions in our region. Our metropolitan rapid transit system will have a regionwide bus rapid transit network, a regional commuter rail spine, and several other elements including equitable land use policy. We will travel to South Florida in winter 2022 for ideas and inspiration to further advance our enhanced transit system — learn more, including how to register for the RTA winter 2022 tour presented by GoTriangle and the NC Railroad Company, here.

RTA gives thanks for each of our members and partners
On behalf of RTA chair Mike Schoenfeld of Duke University, allow me to give thanks to our dedicated members for your ongoing commitment to your respective organizations, the RTA business leadership group, and this region. In addition, the RTA would like to thank each of our partners:  the elected, appointed, and career transportation professionals for their steadfast focus on serving our growing regional community. The regional business community is grateful and thankful for your leadership, partnership, and service — this and every Thanksgiving.

Let’s get moving,

Joe
